Pneumatic Impact Tester
This machine tests impact forces on a lever-style shifter. This system uses a pneumatic rotary actuator, sprocket, and chain to position and then release the lever. A free-sliding, guided, adjustable weight is attached to the lever.
The pneumatic actuator is able to change position quickly enough that the only non-negligible force is gravity acting on the guided weight as the lever is released. At this time, a high speed data collection routine (up to 20KHz) measures and records the impact, including its peak, saving the data on the PC and displaying it via the control/monitoring software (created using Microsoft Visual Studio).
